The Prophet

Spokesman for The LORD (YHVH) - Listen to Him

Moses is known for his humility. Deuteronomy is a condensed version of the Exodus event, about the 40 years the Israelites wondered in the wilderness. Moses is relating for the Israelites all they needed to know and should have learned in their trek from Egypt as they prepared to enter the promised land. One of his interesting statements to them was about the coming ‘Prophet’ like unto Moses.

Is there something we can learn from this?

Deut 18:9 (NAS) "When you enter the land which the LORD your God gives you, you shall not learn to imitate the detestable things of those nations. 10 There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, 11 or one who casts a spell, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. 12 For whoever does these things is detestable to the LORD; and because of these detestable things the LORD your God will drive them out before you.

Deut 18:13 "You shall be blameless before the LORD your God.

Warning - Don’t listen to others

Deut 18:14 "For those nations, which you shall dispossess, listen to those who practice witchcraft and to diviners, but as for you, the LORD your God has not allowed you to do so.

Listen to ‘The Prophet’ to come (The Christ)

Deut 18:15 "The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your countrymen, you shall listen to him.

Why?

Deut 18:16 This is according to all that you asked of the LORD your God in Horeb on the day of the assembly, saying, 'Let me not hear again the voice of the LORD my God, let me not see this great fire anymore, lest I die.' 17 And the LORD said to me, 'They have spoken well. 18 I will raise up a prophet from among their countrymen like you [Moses], and I will put My words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him.

And the warning

Deut 18:19 And it shall come about that whoever will not listen to My words which he shall speak in My name, I Myself will require it of him. 20 But the prophet who shall speak a word presumptuously in My name which I have not commanded him to speak, or which he shall speak in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.' 21 And you may say in your heart, 'How shall we know the word which the LORD has not spoken?' 22 When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.

It appears that The Prophet is to be like Moses because Israel asked to have someone to stand between them and the Most High. Here we see we are to listen to This Prophet (The Messiah) and not anyone else.

The office of This Prophet - The Christ

Isa 61:1 "The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me, Because the LORD has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; 2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, 3 To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified."

The Christ (Messiah Yeshua) said:

John 12:49 "For I did not speak on My own initiative, but the Father Himself who sent Me has given Me commandment, what to say, and what to speak. 50 And I know that His commandment is eternal life; therefore the things I speak, I speak just as the Father has told Me."

The tendency is not to listen

Jeremiah 29:19 because they have not listened to My words,' declares the LORD, 'which I sent to them again and again by My servants the prophets; but you did not listen,' declares the LORD.

Repent and be Blessed

Acts 3:19 "Repent therefore and return, that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord; 20 and that He may send Jesus, the Christ appointed for you, 21 whom heaven must receive until the period of restoration of all things about which God spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from ancient time.

Acts 3:22 "Moses said, 'The Lord God shall raise up for you a prophet like me from your brethren; to Him you shall give heed in everything He says to you. 23 'And it shall be that every soul that does not heed that prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.'

Acts 3:24 "And likewise, all the prophets who have spoken, from Samuel and his successors onward, also announced these days… 26 "… God raised up His Servant, and sent Him to bless you by turning every one of you from your wicked ways."

Are we listening today? How do we know? Next time.

You can make a difference - Amen

Saying(s)

"We may gather more than berries from our fruit gardens. Nature hangs
thoughts and suggestions on every spray, and blackberry bushes give
many an impressive scratch to teach us that good and evil are very near
together in this world, and that we must be careful, while seeking the one,
to avoid the other."
E. P. Roe

Matt 6:32 "… For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble…"

First Appearances

I had been drooling over several expensive Cymbidium orchids in bloom at my local supermarket. Once the faded blooms were removed, the plants went on sale and I went to my husband. After obtaining permission to bring yet another plant into our home, I happily set off to the store on errand day to get my prize. My joy was visible when I found one remaining orchid at 90% off. Feeling almost sneaky for getting such a great bargain, I put the orchid in my shopping cart and proceeded on with getting groceries. Now this orchid is so big that I had to look around it to steer my cart and when I checked out, we couldn’t fit a bag over it. I dreading taking it out into the 15 below wind chilled February day to my equally cold car but there was no other way of getting it home.

So it sat bundled up in plastic through two more hours of errands before it reached the warmth of my home. I was sure that I had done irreparable damage to it as my other Phalaenopsis orchid will not stand any temperature below 55 degrees. I hoped desperately that I had not frozen my brand new giant tropical orchid.

Then I went online and laughed with relief. My "tropical" orchid grows in the mountains and actually requires periods of cold to set blooms and is hardy down to 28 degrees. So it was fine, riding around in the car protected from the wind chill. My assumption based on the plant’s name was faulty.

I have mistakenly made assumptions about people the same way I mislabeled my orchid as a delicate tropical. Perhaps I should learn others true character before I let my first impression guide my interactions with them. I know that God looks on the heart of a person, not on the outward appearance in His dealings with us. I am so grateful that He can see that my heart desires to serve Him, even when I fail outwardly once again.

Did you know?

BANANAS

A professor at CCNY for a physiological psych class told his class about bananas. He said the expression "going bananas" is from the effects of bananas on the brain. Read on:

Never, put your banana in the refrigerator!!!

Bananas contain three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy.

Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes.

But energy isn't the only way a banana can help us keep fit. It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

Depression:
According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood and generally make you feel happier.

PMS:
Forget the pills - eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

Anemia:
High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

Blood Pressure:
This unique tropical fruit is extremely high in potassium yet low in salt, making it perfect to beat blood pressure. So much so, the US Food and Drug Administration has just allowed the banana industry to make official claims for the fruit's ability to reduce the risk of blood pressure and stroke.

Brain Power:
200 students at a Twickenham (Middlesex) school were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.

Constipation:
High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.

Heartburn:
Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.

Morning Sickness:
Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.

Mosquito bites:
Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.

Nerves:
Bananas are high in B vitamins that help calm the nervous system.

Overweight
and at work? Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and crisps. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.

Ulcers:
The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.

Temperature control:
Many other cultures see bananas as a "cooling" fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand , for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD):
Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.

Smoking &Tobacco Use:
Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6, B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.

Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain and regulates your body's water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be re balanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack.

Strokes:
According to research in The New England Journal of Medicine, eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%!

Warts:
Those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want to kill off a wart, take a piece of banana skin and place it on the wart, with the yellow side out. Carefully hold the skin in place with a plaster or surgical tape!

So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrate, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around So maybe it’s time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, "A banana a day keeps the doctor away!"

Life in Messiah

Words Of Life

Do you know people who talk all the time? They may have some interesting things to say but you can't really have a conversation with them because that implies two people speaking. You may find such people wearisome and avoid them. Yet Yeshua is the Living Word, and He is always speaking. He speaks in a still small voice and does not dominate a conversation. Your overbearing friend may be hard to avoid, but Yeshua is meek and lowly in heart, and it is easy to avoid Him. Those who understand the value of our Savior’s words will seek Him out, and sit at His feet, and listen carefully for they know that He alone has the words of life.

Hearing

You have Yeshua’s promise that His sheep hears His voice. How often do you hear from Him? Do you expect Him to speak frequently or seldom? Do you assume that you hear everything He says? He is correctly called the Living Word. How shall He not speak? He always speaks. If you do not always hear then you would benefit by learning to hear. Look and listen to the beauty of the creation, to words you overhear that come alive to you even if the speaker did not intend them for you, to unexpected thoughts of divine wisdom. The first step to hearing is to know that He is speaking and pay attention. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
