Whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.

The Spirit Realm - Part II

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches
Rev 3:22 (NAS)

Last time we gave an introduction to the spirit and angelic realm. This issue we would like to continue to explore the out of sight (usually unseen by mankind) realm that will enhance our understanding about the workings of the Kingdom of God.

Consider these aspects of spirit as it affects our lives:

Wolfram Alpha Spirit (noun)

  1. The vital principle or animating force within living things.
  2. The general atmosphere of a place or situation and the effect that it has on people.
  3. A fundamental and activating principle determining one’s character.
  4. Any incorporeal super natural being that can become visible (or audible) to humans.
  5. The state of a person’s emotions (especially with regard to pleasure or dejection).
  6. The intended meaning of a communicator.
  7. Animation and energy in action or expression.
  8. An inclination or tendency of a certain kind.

The Ever living Father and Son are Supreme - Head over all that is created

Deut 5:6 'I am the LORD your God 7 'You shall have no other gods before Me.

All other spirit beings are created - The other gods of Deuteronomy 5:7 are also elohim

H430 - Transliteration: 'elohiym - Phonetic: el-o-heem'

- Definition:

1. (plural)

a. rulers, judges

b. divine ones

c. angels

d. gods

2. (plural intensive - singular meaning)

b. godlike one

Therefore in Scripture God (the Father) is the Supreme Elohim. He created all other spirit beings. These, in Scripture, are called gods and angels (elohim). Created for specific purposes they serve in the spirit (unseen) realm - some of these elohim are referred to as sons of God.

Ps 82:1 LBP GOD stands in the congregation of angels; he judges among the angels.

Ps 82:1 CJB Elohim stands in the divine assembly; there with the elohim , he judges:

Job 1:6 NAS Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them.

Companion Bible - Appendix #23

It is only by the Divine specific act of creation that any created being can be called "a son of God" …

This is why angels are called "sons of God" in every other place where the expression is used in the Old Testament. Job 1:6; Job 2:1; Job 38:7. Psa 29:1; Psa 89:6. Dan 3:25 (no art.). We have no authority or right to take the expression in Gen 6:2; Gen 6:4 in any other sense. Moreover, in Gen 6:2 the Sept. renders it "angels". Angels are called "spirits" (Psa 104:4. Heb 1:7; Heb 1:14), for spirits are created by God.

**********

There is, in the spirit realm, a few on the dark side.

Matt 24:4 And Jesus answered and said to them, "See to it that no one misleads you. 5 "For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will mislead many.

Eph 2:2 …the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience.

A few examples of the dark side in the spirit realm that affects mankind

Nu 5:14 … a spirit of jealousy

Jud 9:23 …an evil spirit

Prov 16:18 …a haughty spirit before stumbling.

Isa 19:14 … a spirit of distortion

Jer 51:1 … The spirit of a destroyer.

Eze 13:3 … "Woe to the foolish prophets who are following their own spirit

Zep 1:12 … [Those] stagnant in spirit ...

Mark 9:17 … a spirit which makes him mute;

Lu 4:33 … the spirit of an unclean demon

Lu 13:11 … a sickness caused by a spirit

Ac 16:16-18 … a spirit of divination …by fortune-telling…

Ro 8:15 … a spirit of slavery

1Co 2:12 … the spirit of the world

1Ti 4:1 … deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons,

God has given each of us the responsibility of weighing the words of any prophet. Don't be lazy or irresponsible - check them out.

1Jo 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Lighter Side

A Senior Moment

That will be $5.37!

That's what the kid behind the counter at Taco Bell said to me.

I dug into my pocket and pulled out some lint and two dimes and something that used to be a Jolly Rancher.

Having already handed the kid a five-spot, I started to head back out to the truck to grab some change when the kid with the Elmo hairdo said the hardest thing anyone has ever said to me.

He said, "It's OK. I'll just give you the senior citizen discount."

I turned to see who he was talking to and then heard the sound of change hitting the counter in front of me - "Only $4.68"  he said cheerfully.

I stood there stupefied. I am 56, not even 60 yet?

A mere child! Senior citizen?

I took my burrito and walked out to the truck wondering what was wrong with Elmo.
Was he blind?

As I sat in the truck, my blood began to boil - Old? Me?

I'll show him, I thought. I opened the door and headed back inside. I strode to the counter, and there he was waiting with a smile.

Before I could say a word, he held up something and jingled it in front of me,
like I could be that easily distracted! What am I now? A toddler?

"Dude! Can't get too far without your car keys, eh?"
I stared with utter disdain at the keys. I began to rationalize in my mind!

"Leaving keys behind hardly makes a man elderly!
It could happen to anyone!"

I turned and headed back to the truck.
I slipped the key into the ignition, but it wouldn't turn.
What now? I checked my keys and tried another.
Still nothing.

That's when I noticed the purple beads hanging from my rear view mirror.
I had no purple beads hanging from my rear view mirror.

Then, a few other objects came into focus:
The car seat in the back seat.
Happy Meal toys spread all over the floorboard.
A partially eaten doughnut on the dashboard.

Faster than you can say ginkgo biloba, I flew out of the alien vehicle.

Moments later I was speeding out of the parking lot, relieved to finally be leaving this nightmarish stop in my life.

That is when I felt it, deep in the bowels of my stomach:   Hunger!  My stomach growled and churned, and I reached to grab my burrito, only it was nowhere to be found.

I swung the truck around, gathered my courage, and strode back into the restaurant one final time.

There Elmo stood, draped in youth and black nail polish.
All I could think was, "What is the world coming to?"

All I could say was, "Did I leave my food and drink in here"?
At this point I was ready to ask a Boy Scout to help me back to my vehicle, and then go straight home and apply for Social Security benefits.

Elmo had no clue.
I walked back out to the truck, and suddenly a young lad came up and tugged on my jeans to get my attention. He was holding up a drink and a bag.

His mother explained, "I think you left this in my truck by mistake."

I took the food and drink from the little boy and sheepishly apologized.

She offered these kind words: "It's OK. My grandfather does stuff like this all the time."

All of this is to explain how I got a ticket doing 85 in a 40 mph zone.
Yessss, I was racing some punk kid in a Toyota Prius.

And no, I told the officer, I'm not too old to be driving this fast.

As I walked in the front door, my wife met me halfway down the hall.

I handed her a bag of cold food and a $300 speeding ticket.

I promptly sat in my rocking chair and covered up my legs with a blankey.

The good news was that I had successfully found my way home.

Life in Messiah

Honest Seekers

Do you consider yourself to be honest? This involves more than telling the truth to other people. You must tell the truth to yourself as well. In the things you think about, do you seize upon the first answer that confirms your preferences? This is intellectually lazy. It is more honest to consider all the evidence and let the question remain open until the evaluation is complete. If you think about spiritual things the same arguments apply. Is it spiritually lazy to be satisfied with easy answers? Spiritual honesty may require you to leave some questions open while you consider them. Even some of the concepts in God’s word are held in tension. Does this make you uncomfortable? Yet He has called you to be a seeker and a sojourner. As you follow Him He will reveal the mysteries of the Kingdom to you and lead you into all truth.
