Whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.

The Seven Churches of Revelation

"He who has ears to hear…"

"He who Overcomes…"

Part Two

John the Baptist came preaching the Kingdom of God

After John Yeshua (Jesus) Preached the Kingdom of God

We are told to pray… "Thy Kingdom Come…"

Yeshua is the King of that Kingdom

Why do we have the Book of Revelation?

It is the book about Yeshua’s (Jesus’) Second Advent and the events preliminary to it.

It is a call for His Church to wake up - to Hear, to Repent, Overcome and endure.

Rev 1:7 Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him…

Rev 1:1 … to show to His bond-servants, the things which must shortly take place…

What value is this Book for us today?

Rev 1:3 NKJV Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near.

Rev 1:6 and He has made us to be a kingdom, priests to His God and Father…

What is the key cry to all the churches?

Rev 2:7 "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes …" '

The Seven Churches represents one whole church body!

Rom 12:4 For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, 5 so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.

1Cor 10:17 Since there is one bread, we who are many are one body; for we all partake of the one bread.

1Cor 12:27 Now you are Christ's body, and individually members of it.

What applies to these seven churches applies to each of us.

The Seven Churches - If they are the only churches that represent the whole body of Messiah to which one do you belong? Do we have the ears to hear what the Spirit is saying to all the churches? Are we listening? Are we using God’s grace (power) to prepare and overcome?

As the menorah (made as one piece of gold with seven golden candle sticks) is before the throne of God in heaven herein represents the whole church of God. We must remember there were many other church congregations when John wrote this revelation (as there are today), yet these seven represent all the churches combined; different characteristics but still God’s Light to the world.

Rev 1:4 John to the seven churches that are in Asia …and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne; Rev 1:12 … And having turned I saw seven golden lampstands; 13 and in the middle of the lampstands one like a son of man…

Rev 1:20 "As for the mystery of the seven stars which you saw in My right hand, and the seven golden lampstands: the seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches.

Hear what the Head of these seven churches says:

They have a Negative side - not a pretty picture - thus the call to repentance and overcoming that condition:

Ephesus

Rev 2:4 'But I have this against you, that you have left your first love. 'Remember therefore from where you have fallen, and repent and do the deeds you did at first; or else I am coming to you, and will remove your lampstand out of its place -- unless you repent.

Smyrna

Rev 2:10 'Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to cast some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.

Pergamum

Rev 2:14 'But I have a few things against you, because you have there some who hold the teaching of Balaam, who kept teaching Balak to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit acts of immorality. 'Thus you also have some who in the same way hold the teaching of the Nicolaitans.

'Repent therefore; or else I am coming to you quickly, and I will make war against them with the sword of My mouth.

Thyatira

Rev 2:20 'But I have this against you, that you tolerate the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, and she teaches and leads My bond-servants astray, so that they commit acts of immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. 'And I gave her time to repent; and she does not want to repent of her immorality. 'Behold, I will cast her upon a bed of sickness, and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of her deeds. 'And I will kill her children with pestilence; and all the churches will know that I am He who searches the minds and hearts; and I will give to each one of you according to your deeds.

Sardis

Rev 3:2 'Wake up, and strengthen the things that remain, which were about to die; for I have not found your deeds completed in the sight of My God. 'Remember therefore what you have received and heard; and keep it, and repent. If therefore you will not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come upon you.

Philadelphia

Rev 3:8 '…because you have a little power, and have kept My word, and have not denied My name.

Rev 3:11 'I am coming quickly; hold fast what you have, in order that no one take your crown.

Laodicea

Rev 3:15 'I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I would that you were cold or hot. So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth. Because you say, "I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing," and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked, I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire, that you may become rich, and white garments, that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and eye salve to anoint your eyes, that you may see.

This and the whole revelation are written to all the Church’s.

Rev 1:11 saying, "Write in a book what you see, and send it to the seven churches…"

- The call is clear; the warning can be devastating:

  • Removal of the lampstand
  • The need to be tested with tribulation
  • War with the King of kings
  • Given what we really deserve (according to our deeds)
  • Come upon like a thief
  • Little power and the need for endurance (holding fast)
  • Wretched - miserable - poor - blind

Even without a careful reading of these verses it is easily determined there is much to be corrected and worked on (repenting, enduring, waking up and overcoming) in order to reach our ultimate goal of being one with Christ and being with Him in His Kingdom, that is yet to come!

Despite all the problems these lampstands are still giving light - how much more if we can clean up our condition to be the light of the world we are called for?

We touched on the positive aspects of the Father and the Sons great love for us in part one. How they beseech us to turn to Him, to overcome and be a part of His family… The Kingdom of God. Now we have seen faults within each church that needs to be rectified. Next, we will look at some of the parables of Yeshua that reflect our need to obey His call and similar warnings.

For the Church of God - pay attention, repent, endure and overcome whatever is hindering us.

Proverbs

Diligently Seek God’s Kingdom

Proverbs 2:4 If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures…

Proverbs 8:17 "I love those who love me; And those who diligently seek me will find me.

Proverbs 28:5 Evil men do not understand justice, but those who seek the LORD understand all things.

Proverbs 29:26 Many seek the ruler's favor, but justice for man comes from the LORD.

Saying(s)

"Jesus has now many lovers of the heavenly kingdom but few bearers of His cross."
― Thomas ΰ
Kempis

"When you cease to make a contribution, you begin to die."

- Eleanor Roosevelt

"The smallest good deed is greater than the grandest intention."

Did you know?

God's Accuracy

Anytime you feel like God does not do everything good, try picking up an egg
without the shell!

God's accuracy may be observed in the hatching of eggs.  For example;
-the eggs of the potato bug hatch in 7 days;
-those of the canary in 14 days;
-those of the barnyard hen in 21 days.
-The eggs of ducks and geese hatch in 28 days;
-those of the mallard in 35 days.
-The eggs of the parrot and the ostrich hatch in 42 days.
(Notice, they are all divisible by seven).

The lives of each of you may be ordered by the Lord in a beautiful way for
His glory, if you will only entrust Him with your life.  If you try to
regulate your own life, it will only be a mess and a failure.  Only the One
Who made the brain and the heart can successfully guide them to a profitable
end.

God's wisdom is seen in the making of an elephant.  The four legs of this
great beast all bend forward in the same direction.  No other quadruped is
so made.  God planned that this animal would have a huge body, too large to
live on two legs.  For this reason, He gave it four fulcrums so that it can
rise from the ground easily.

The horse rises from the ground on its two front legs first.  A cow rises
from the ground with its two hind legs first.  How wise the Lord is in all
His works of creation!

God's wisdom is revealed in His arrangement of sections and segments, as
well as in the number of grains.

-Each watermelon has an even number of strips on the rind.
-Each orange has an even number of segments.
-Each ear of corn has an even number of rows.
-Each stalk of wheat has an even number of grains.
-Every bunch of bananas has on its lowest row an even number of bananas, and
each row decreases by one, so that one row has an even number and the next
row an odd number.

-The waves of the sea roll in on shore twenty-six to the minute in all kinds
of weather.

All grains are found in even numbers on the stalks, and the Lord specified
thirtyfold, sixtyfold, and a hundredfold - all even numbers.

God has caused the flowers to blossom at certain specified times during the
day, so that Linneus, the great botanist, once said that if he had a
conservatory containing the right kind of soil, moisture and temperature, he
could tell the time of day or night by the flowers that were open and those
that were closed!

Thus the Lord in His wonderful grace can arrange the life that is entrusted
to His care in such a way that it will carry out His purposes and plans, and
will be fragrant with His presence.

Life in Messiah

Understand the Kingdom

Are you reluctant to accept things you don't understand, and is this particularly true for matters of faith and doctrine, since they are so important? Do you think God is not involved in anything that doesn't make sense to you? For you know that He is infinite and omniscient, and you know that we are not. Doesn't simple logic make one suspicious of the first premise above? Wouldn't you expect that He is involved in things beyond our comprehension, and not involved in things we understand? Yet He reveals them to us by His Spirit. Jesus said if we ask, He would show us the mysteries of His Kingdom.

Be a Light

You are called to live a life of faith. This is based on the truth revealed to you, and your belief about what is to come. Incorporating this belief into your being affects your behavior now. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. These are not vague and abstract terms. They refer to a visible present reality. For your conduct according to your faith is a bright and shining light, a testimony to the glory of God’s kingdom not yet visible. Those around you cannot see afar off in the spirit to see His kingdom, but they can see you. Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father.
