A Promise A House and A Kingdom

There are several covenants (promises) in Scripture. An intriguing one is when YHVH (The LORD) makes one with David. You know the David that killed Goliath; the one that united all the tribes of Israel under YHVH’s hand. This covenant is recorded in two places, 1Chronicles 17 and 2Samuel 7; it is worth reading this marvelous covenant and prophecy.

COVENANT, v.t. To grant or promise by covenant. (Webster 1828 edition)

David desires to make a house for the Ark of God: (All Scripture from NAS unless indicated)

2Sam 7:1 Now it came about when the king lived in his house, and the LORD (YHVH) had given him rest on every side from all his enemies, 2 that the king said to Nathan the prophet, "See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells within tent curtains."

Nathan encourages the king:

2Sam 7:3 And Nathan said to the king, "Go, do all that is in your mind, for the LORD is with you."

YHVH’s insight on the matter:

2Sam 7:4 But it came about in the same night that the word of the LORD came to Nathan, saying, 5 "Go and say to My servant David, 'Thus says the LORD, "Are you the one who should build Me a house to dwell in? 6 For I have not dwelt in a house since the day I brought up the sons of Israel from Egypt, even to this day; but I have been moving about in a tent, even in a tabernacle. 7 "Wherever I have gone with all the sons of Israel, did I speak a word with one of the tribes of Israel, which I commanded to shepherd My people Israel, saying, 'Why have you not built Me a house of cedar?'"'

Remind David who is with him:

2Sam 7:8 "Now therefore, thus you shall say to My servant David, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, "I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, that you should be ruler over My people Israel. 9 And I have been with you wherever you have gone and have cut off all your enemies from before you; and I will make you a great name, like the names of the great men who are on the earth. 10 I will also appoint a place for My people Israel and will plant them, that they may live in their own place and not be disturbed again, nor will the wicked afflict them any more as formerly, 11 even from the day that I commanded judges to be over My people Israel; and I will give you rest from all your enemies…

The Covenant:

YHVH will build the House

2Sam 7:11"… The LORD also declares to you that the LORD will make a house for you. 12 When your days are complete and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your descendant(singular) after you, who will come forth from you, and I will establish his kingdom.

A House and A Kingdom, forever:

2Sam 7:13 "He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. (TWOT: 241 [bayit] house, household, home, place, temple, inward, family, et al.)

More than a Solomon:

2Sam 7:14 "I will be a father to him and he will be a son to Me; when he commits iniquity, I will correct him with the rod of men and the strokes of the sons of men, 15 but My lovingkindness shall not depart from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you. 16 "And your house and your kingdom shall endure before Me forever; your throne shall be established forever."'"

2Sam 7:17 In accordance with all these words and all this vision, so Nathan spoke to David.

This covenant (promise) is about a House and a Kingdom; we will first consider the House.

Who is the real builder of the House?

It is generally understood that the above is speaking of Solomon, a type of Messiah…

Poole Commentary:

"Verse 13 He shall build an house: this is meant literally and immediately of Solomon, who alone did build the material house or temple; but mystically and ultimately of Christ, who is the builder of God’s spiritual house or temple."

Heb 3:3 For He (the Son of God) has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, by just so much as the builder of the house has more honor than the house.

Heb 3:6 but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until the end.

YHVH is the builder of this enduring house and we are the building materials being build on a sure and solid foundation. Solomon built the temple (house) of precious materials a type of the living stones being used in the spiritual house.

God’s house made of living stones:

1Pet 2:5 you also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

Built on a solid foundation:

Eph 2:20 having been built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone, 21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together is growing into a holy temple in the Lord; 22 in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit.

Who is this descendant of David that will build this House?

From David there would be a descendant (2Sam 2:12) that would build a house for YHVH; Solomon was only a type of the true builder. To confirm that Yeshua(Jesus) was that descendant we read:

Rom 1:3 concerning His Son, who was born of a descendant of David according to the flesh,

Matt 22:42 saying, "What do you think about the Christ, whose son is He?" They said to Him, " The son of David."

Rev 22:16 "I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things for the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David…"

Yeshua, will build this house and YHVH will dwell therein:

Matthew 16:18 (ESV English Standard Version) I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Hebrews 11:10 (ESV) For he (Abraham) was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God.

Revelation 3:12 (ESV) The one who conquers, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God. Never shall he go out of it, and I will write on him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down from my God out of heaven…

A profound mystery:

Ephesians 5:30 (ESV) because we are members of his body. … 32 This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church.

1 Corinthians 3:16 (ESV) Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you?

This House - a work in process:

John 14:2 "In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.

In this covenant with David the promise of a temple being built by Solomon was only a picture of the true spiritual temple being built by Yeshua using redeemed living stones; the members of His body, built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets with Yeshua Messiah as the chief cornerstone; a dwelling place for God by His Spirit; today and in the Kingdom to come.

Summary: (Terumah Exodus 25:1-27 - Author Hutch Church Posted in Torah and Glory School / 2010-2011)

"Believer, here is the most amazing fact. All this was done so that one day you and I--disciples of Yeshua, to Whom the Tabernacle pointed--would become His Tabernacle, His Temple, His Dwelling place on earth! As it is written, "...for you are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them, and I will be their God, and they will be My people" (2Cor. 6:16). The work of the Holy Spirit in regenerating and indwelling the heart [spirit] of every Believer is a distinguishing result of the New Covenant, and stands out in the thinking of Paul (1Cor. 3:16; 6:19; Eph. 2:21-22; 1 Tim. 3:15; 1 Pet. 2:5). We are Elohim's (God’s) living stones, into whom He has poured His love by the Spirit (Rom. 5:5), and are being built up into a holy spiritual temple. We therefore have blessed intimacy of fellowship with the Holy One of Israel. Accordingly, just as He did long ago with the Tabernacle complex, He will meet all your inner and outer needs as well. "But my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus" (Phil. 4:19).Remember, as you (His holy Tabernacle) give and serve Him, He will cause people to "pour into your lap a good measure--pressed down, shaken together, and running over" (Luke 6:38)."

"Now you are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of Elohim; And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Yeshua Messiah himself being the chief cornerstone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in YHVH: In whom ye also are builded up together for an habitation of Elohim through the Spirit" (Eph. 2:19-22).

Praise to our King:

Rev 1:6 and He has made us to be a kingdom, priests to His God and Father; to Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

YHVH is building a spiritual House (Temple); with His children as the living stones; this will be an everlasting kingdom - about the kingdom next time.

Proverbs

Proverbs 9:1 Wisdom has built her house, She has hewn out her seven pillars;

Proverbs 24:3 By wisdom a house is built, And by understanding it is established;

We are considering The House as the one being built by our Messiah. The one made of living stones. By wisdom and understanding we are being established as that House, the new Jerusalem, yet to come (Rev 21).

2 Corinthians 5 (ESV) 1 For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 For in this tent we groan, longing to put on our heavenly dwelling, …4 For while we are still in this tent, we groan, being burdened-not that we would be unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. 5 He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.

Hebrews 13:14 (ESV) For here we have no lasting city, but we seek the city that is to come.

Thank you YHVH for the Wisdom over Your House – that is Yeshua the Captain of our Salvation.

Saying (s)

"Success is a journey not a destination." Ben Sweetland

The Patriarchs lived in tents and wandered about the promised land as strangers and pilgrims. They did not give up – they endured and by faith they succeeded and have received the promise of eternal life in the Kingdom to come. Being members of the House of God we are on a journey; experiencing and growing along with trials, struggles, and sorrows; yet with joy because we are being prepared for greater service; both now and in the Kingdom to come.

Hebrews 11:12-16 (ESV) 12 Therefore from one man (Abraham), and him as good as dead, were born descendants as many as the stars of heaven and as many as the innumerable grains of sand by the seashore. 13 These all died in faith, not having received the things promised, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having acknowledged that they were strangers and exiles on the earth. 14 For people who speak thus make it clear that they are seeking a homeland. 16 But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city.

We have not attained the fullness of our goal – being in the Kingdom of God.

YHVH grant you success in this fabulous journey to the Kingdom.

Help us Father succeed by keeping our eyes on the Master of Your House, Yeshua the Messiah.

Humility

In our pursuit of humility:

(Lessons from humility and holiness.)

"The great test of whether the holiness we profess to seek or to attain in truth and life will be whether it is manifest in the increasing humility it produces. In the individual, humility is the one thing needed to allow God’s holiness to dwell in and shine through him or her. " Andrew Murray

A hundred years ago there was a movement called the holiness movement. Most of the churches of God realized the need to be ‘Holy as God is Holy’; so many sought and professed a life of holiness. Some church movements even attached Holiness to their name (i.e. Pilgrim Holiness Church).

Holiness Movement (from the internet):

"The Holiness Movement in Christianity is a movement which teaches that the carnal nature of humanity can be cleansed through faith and by the power of the Holy Spirit if one has had his sins forgiven through faith in Jesus Christ. The benefits professed include spiritual power and an ability to maintain purity of heart (that is, thoughts and motives that are uncorrupted by sin). The doctrine is typically referred to in Holiness churches as entire sanctification or Christian perfection."

As mentioned above true holiness is found only by humbling oneself and allowing the Holy One to indwell them – the only true way to be holy. Scripture shows the need to be humble as we approach the Holy Eternal One. Once cleansed and transformed (by the power of His Spirit) these humble ones will make up the dwelling place (house) of The Almighty.

Our calling:

Eph 1:4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him

YHVH is Holy:

"For You alone are holy…" (Revelation 15:4)

The Holy One says:

You shall consecrate yourselves therefore and be holy, for I am the LORD your God. ‘You shall keep My statutes and practice them; I am the LORD who sanctifies you. (Leviticus 20: 7-8)

Therefore:

"You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain. (Exodus 20: 7)

Because:

There is a way which seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death. (Proverbs 16: 25)

Consequently we should ask:

Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts; And see if there be any hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way. (Psalm 139:23-24)

Holy Father may Your holiness, Yeshua, shine thru us unto a needy world.

Prayer

Understanding the precepts of prayer.

Deuteronomy 9:26 "And I prayed to the LORD, and said, 'O Lord God, do not destroy Thy people, even Thine inheritance, whom Thou hast redeemed through Thy greatness, whom Thou hast brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand. 27 Remember Thy servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; do not look at the stubbornness of this people or at their wickedness or their sin. 28 Otherwise the land from which Thou didst bring us may say, "Because the LORD was not able to bring them into the land which He had promised them and because He hated them He has brought them out to slay them in the wilderness." 29 'Yet they are Thy people, even Thine inheritance, whom Thou hast brought out by Thy great power and Thine outstretched arm.'

Have the confidence of Moses to pray for others; especially His people. As Moses prayed for Israel he was careful to praise YHVH speaking of His majesty; calling His redeemed people His inheritance. Pointing out that the nations might consider Him a God without mercy – yet acknowledging Israel’s stubbornness and the wickedness of their sin, he beseeches ‘O Elohim do not destroyYour people.

Oh YHVH You are Awesome and worthy of all praise. Have mercy on us by overlooking our many shortcomings; may You rejoice in Your inheritance. Thank You, because by the blood of Messiah we are redeemed, You see us as Your sons and daughters, Your children, Your people and we can humbly approach You through our High Priest Yeshua. Amen

Heart of God

How does God feel about issues we face today?

Bits of Wisdom

(Proverbs 4:7) Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all your getting get understanding.

(Proverbs 4:5) Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.

  • Focus on God, not yourself
  • Celebrate the opportunity to obey God
  • Use time wisely, it is a test
  • Continually repent
  • Think of everything as God’s
  • Perfection is not required, a good attitude is
  • Don’t lose the blessing in the attitude
  • God is order, not chaos
  • Everything matters

(Proverbs 16:16) How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!

Lighter Side

In case you need further proof that the human race is doomed …, here are some actual label instructions on consumer goods.

On a Sears hairdryer:

Do not use while sleeping. (And that's the only time I have to work on my hair).

On a bag of Fritos:

...You could be a winner! No purchase necessary. Details inside. (How might I find out?)

On a bar of Dial soap:

"Directions: Use like regular soap." (And that would be how???)

On some Swanson frozen dinners:

"Serving suggestion: Defrost." (But, it's "just" a suggestion).

On Tesco's Tiramisu dessert (printed on bottom):

"Do not turn upside down." (Well... a bit late, huh)!

On Marks & Spencer Bread Pudding:

"Product will be hot after heating." (...and you thought????...)

On packaging for a Rowenta iron:

"Do not iron clothes on body." (but wouldn't this save me more time?)

On Boot's Children Cough Medicine:

"Do not drive a car or operate machinery after taking this medication."

On Nytol Sleep Aid:

"Warning: May cause drowsiness." (...I'm taking this because???....)

On most brands of Christmas lights:

"For indoor or outdoor use only." (As opposed to...what?)

On a Japanese food processor:

"Not to be used for the other use." (Now, somebody out there, help me on this. I'm a bit curious.)

On Sunsbury's peanuts:

"Warning: contains nuts." (talk about a news flash)

On an American Airlines packet of nuts:

"Instructions: Open packet, eat nuts." (Step 3: maybe, uh...?)

On a child's superman costume:

"Wearing of this garment does not enable you to fly."

Have a good day!

The Modern Church

95 Theses to the Modern Evangelical Church

by Greg Gordon - (founder of SermonIndex.net)

8. We take it too lightly that we have the blessing and honor of having God’s Scriptures in our possession. (Ps 119:16; Acts 13:44; Neh 8:9)

9. There has never been more access to the Word of God, yet so little reading of it. (1Tim 4:13; Neh 8:1-3; Ps 119:59)

10. Some read the Scriptures to attain knowledge, but do not practice what they read. (Jam 1:22; Mt 7:21; 3Jn 4)

Holy, Merciful, and Loving One of Israel forgive us these shortcomings. Use Your Spirit to stir us to zealously study and apply the blessing of Your Word. In the name of Yeshua HaMoshiach.

Cause and Effect

Scribbles

(By Michael Boldea Jr.)

"Like medicine, the truth can sometimes be bitter to the taste, but necessary to our wellbeing."

"Whether through His holy Word, by prophecy, dreams, or visions, God still speaks to His children. He still tells them of the things to come that they might watch and pray, that they might not be beguiled to slumber just a little while, or believe in their hearts that these truths are for the future generation. We are living in the last days!"

"…when the Holy Spirit began speaking to my heart…I must however be obedient to the urging of the Spirit."

Consider

Realize that a truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.

Accept that some days you're the pigeon and some days you're the statue.

Always keep your words soft and sweet in case you have to eat them.

Drive carefully. It's not only cars that can be recalled by their maker.

Remember that it's the second mouse that gets the cheese.

Never put both feet in your mouth at the same time, because

then you won't have a leg to stand on.

Accept that you may be only one person in the world - but you may also be

the world to one person.

The Garden Corner

The potential of a bulb

My trowel pulled a small scaled white bulb like onion out of the ground and I immediately stopped stabbing at the garden soil where I was trying to clear an old bed. I had uncovered the edge of where I had planted – an oriental lily. One of my favorite kinds of lilies called a stargazer to be exact. I had used it in my wedding bouquet with roses and now have many planted about my gardens. I gently felt through the soul and pulled out a mass of white lily bulbs, the largest just an inch or two across with many bulb-lets hanging from the sides. This strange bulb, small as in stature compared to the size of the plant that grows from it every spring amazes me. The 4 to 6 inch long trumpet flowers that are a deep pink edged in white with dark pink freckles are beautiful, fragrant and in no way relate to the size of its bulb. I would never imagine that this little white oniony thing could ever produce what it is destined to become. The saying that you should never judge a book by its cover should be in garden jargon, never judge a plant by what its roots look like. I am glad that Yahweh knows my potential and is patient with me, for I am sure that some days I am definitely looking or acting a little oniony.

Psalm Promise

Psalm 32:8

A Special Promise

Psalm 32:8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.

When we have confessed our sins and by the blood of Messiah received the forgiveness of the Most High, He implants His Holy Spirit within us; then this verse (promise) becomes most precious. When we belong to Him His eye is upon us for our good and when we listen we can go forward in confidence. (consider all Psalm 32)

Praise Him! Listen to Him. Trust Him. Obey Him. We have His promise and His attention.

Blessed be YHVH (Genesis 14:20 And blessed be God Most High…)
